At ISP, we’ve developed expertise in working with local authorities and independent agencies to offer parent and child placements.
We currently have over 30 families approved for parent and child placements, linked to our centres in Buckinghamshire, North London, Sussex and Kent. The majority of the carers in these families have completed NVQs in child care or other related qualifications. What’s more, many of our staff have worked with parent and child assessments in their capacity as carers and social workers, and have a strong working knowledge of the relevant child protection issues and court proceedings.
Our process focuses on child health and development as well as parenting capacity. In addition, we work to develop parents’ ability to access local resources and professional advice and use these in the care of their children. Where necessary, we also involve our therapy service in this work.
All our carers are used to working closely with health professionals, the education system and the courts. Assessments usually occur over an 8 to 12 week period, but can be extended if necessary, depending on local authority, court, education and health time frames. We are also currently developing the after care support package we can offer to families when they move to their own accommodation.
